Overview

First aid knowledge is an invaluable skill for both you as an individual and for your community. Knowing how to provide quick medical treatment whilst waiting for a professional to arrive can save lives. In an emergency situation whether at home, or in the workplace, do not be a helpless witness. Be the difference between life and death and learn how to save lives.

Note: Provide First Aid (HLTAID003) is a unit of competency within the Certificate III in Individual Support and Certificate III in Hospitality course and can be completed on its own. A Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment (SoA) will be issued to the student upon successful completion.

Unit Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

During this short course students will actively work through a theory workbook before using first aid equipment to demonstrate their practical knowledge.

Upon completion of this course students will be able to effectively respond to emergency situations and apply for aid for:

  • Allergic reaction
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Bleeding control
  • Choking and airway obstruction
  • Strokes
  • Respiratory distress, including asthma
  • Shock
  • Drowning
  • Poisoning
  • Seizures
  • Envenomation, using pressure immobilisation
  • Fractures, sprains and strains, using arm slings, roller bandages or other appropriate immobilisation techniques
